Disruption
When Mother Nature hits the pause button
I thought it was Spring. We all thought it was Spring, or at least almost Spring. The flowers were coming up, some just putting up leaves, others actually blooming. Trees had swelling buds and a few leaves pushing thru. The birds were all over everything, including each other, claiming territory and partners.
Then, everything shifted. Heavy winds pushed thru the trees, fragile limbs dropped, dried leaves rushed out of the piles back across the ground. The temperature fell from reasonably comfortable to brutally cold.
The stems started to give way as the blooms limped closer to the ground, the buds iced over as the moisture in the air froze in place. Only the birds seemed oblivious, trying to keep up with the mating rituals that would ensure nesting took place on time.
Nesting has to happen, there must be new life and the sun will shine again and the rain will come in bursts that bring the flowers back and the trees will have leaves and the bugs will emerge to do the work they do whether some like it or not.
Disruptions are simply right now, not forever. Listen to the birds. They are still chirping.
